The most memorable thing about this week, was going to Chikle's parents house on Wednesday. It was memorable, because it was such a unique experience. I got to talk to Chikle's parents and family friends. Hearing about their community, and what they loved about it and how the transition from moving from mexico to the U.S, was such a amazing opportunity. It will be something I never forget because hearing to the joy and the simplicity of how they expressed their community as being just "calm" is something you don't always hear. You may hear the word calm when describing a community and think oh well everyone can say their community is calm, but I don't think that meant just calm. They interview was in spanish, so the word they actually used was "Tranquilo" what I got from that was that apart from just having a calm community, they also have peace within their neighborhoods. Which is an awesome thing to have in your community. It means you know your neighbors well enough to say your at peace with them, that to me is something so genuine.

I think the major purpose of this week's class was to prepare us to interview the community of Paradise Hills. They prepared us by having small interview with each other, also by having us go on Story Corps and finding awesome questions that could lead to learning about awesome story's. Also after the interviews, going into designing the mural was a huge part of class this week. Now that we have more insight into what the community would like to see, we can start to sketch and design. Or even just sit down in our groups and talk what we should be designing for the community. So the mural designs was the biggest objective/purpose of this weeks class.

There is some questions that still remain unanswered, the biggest one would have to be how will we properly represent the paradise hills community. The reason for this being, almost everyone got about the same thing from their interviews, which was a lot of people wanted a mural that would bring all the different people and cultures together in unity. Which I thought was unbelievably awesome. My only concern was how can we accomplish this without leaving any culture out and also properly representing every individual. I know we can accomplish it, I just don't know how we could. All I know is that I believe we will be able to properly represent the Paradise Hills community.

This image originally was colored in by two different colors. I had chosen orange and green, I chose colors that they don't have to do anything with any specific race. I just wanted to be an open unity between a man and a man, or a woman and a women. Or a man and a women or a child and a adult or anyone with anyone. That's why I at the last moment I decided to leave it with no color just the outline of two hands in peace love and unity no matter what the circumstances. |
